A downloadable game

Fifteen Days is a cooperative board game for 3-4 players. Players assume the roles of Allied destroyers tasked with escorting fleets during the Battle of the Atlantic and protecting convoys from Axis U-boats. Equipped with depth charges and mounted guns, their objective is to ensure that more than half of the convoys successfully reach Europe within a span of 15 days.

CASE STUDY: THE GRIZZLED

FORMING IDEAS

My inspiration for creating Fifteen Days arose from my World History classes, specifically those centered on World War II (WWII). For a homework assignment on the technological impact of WWII, I delved into the Battle of the Atlantic, a critical theater involving submarine warfare.

Lasting from 1939 to 1945, peaking in 1942, this battle saw Axis submarines target Allied fleets crucial to supplying Britain. German U-boats, in particular, were devastating, sinking over 7 million tons of Allied ships by July 1942. In response, the Allies developed destroyers, depth charges, and detection devices.

To authentically represent this historical backdrop, I integrated destroyers, U-boats, and depth charges into the game's core mechanics. Additionally, I wove historical events like 'Happy Time' and decoys (Sieglinde) into the game's narrative.

Visual Outcome

The visual design is based on stamps or elements of the postal system in the 1940s, and many propaganda posters or photos from the Second World War were processed to represent the content of each card. In this case, the overall style is correlated with the vintage characteristics of the 1940s.
